Soil :
A diverse composition of soil and typography add complexity and an array of different characteristics to the wine.
Vinification / Maturation :
This wine is blended with young wine to enhance the fresh fruit flavours very evident in this wine. Aged for 6 months in second and third fill 225L American and French oak barrels.
This wine :
Appearance: Dark ruby red.
Bouquet: Blackberries and ripe fruit form the fruit component of the bouquet. These are supported by inviting aromas of fruitcake, spices and leather. Scents of violets emerge as the wine opens up.
Palate: The wine offers intense up-front fruit flavours, along with good weight on the front palate. Good follow-through of dark fruit from the bouquet, plum coming to the fore. The ripe fruit is complimented by flavours of chocolate and liquorice. Firm, but ripe tannins, and a medium to long finish provide an intriguing balance of fruit-flavour and complexity.
Impression:An intense fruit-driven example of a South African Merlot, supported by structure and complexity to benefit bottle maturation.
Food pairing: This Merlot combines early drinkability with subtle complexity and can be paired with most flavoursome, but not spicy, dishes. Our suggestion would be a roasted rack of lamb with grilled vegetables.
